Bush Beast 3

Bush Beast 3 is a custom bush plane I designed and built during the winter of 2018-2019. The design of this plane is inspired by Trent Palmer’s Kitfox, the Pilatus Porter, and various Piper Cub planes. This plane is built using traditional balsa wood and covered with Oracover. The plane has a few custom features including a custom electronics system that handles servo mixing, gyro stabilization and LED lighting. The plane also has a custom made partly 3D printed landing gear with suspension and large bush-style Trexxler balloon wheels.

The landing gear can be found on Thingiverse here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3603111

The electronics system is based on a Teensy 3.2 that reads the S-bus signal from the RC receiver and controls all the servos, it also applies 3 axis gyro stabilization and manages all servo mixing. Each servo signal can be mixed and weighted with any input signal and any gyro axis. The LEDs are powered using MOSFETs the can supply several amps pre channels. The board also has two redundant power inputs. If one fails, everything will continue to work. Everything is mounted on a custom made PCB. I designed the PCB using EasyEDA, and it was manufactured by JLCPCB.

The EasyEDA-project with the schematic and PCB is available here: https://easyeda.com/Axbri/teensyrcairplanehub

The code running on the Teensy/Arduino can be found here: http://brinkeby.se/downloads/RcAirplaneHub.zip
